Digistories for students

How can young people use their smartphone responsibly: addiction, phishing, sexting, online bullying, gaming...

It is impossible to imagine our lives without smartphones. For young people especially, they are almost an extension of their bodies. There is nothing wrong with that, because it is a fantastic invention! For some, however, this passion for social media, games or other apps can turn into an obsession. ‘Behavioural cocaine’ is how specialists describe the smartphone. High time, therefore, to put this potentially addictive behaviour high on the agenda.

The main intention is to inform, discuss and reflect. We use PowerPoint, YouTube videos, an online quiz and poll (via smartphone), statements, etc. A sufficiently strong Wi-Fi network is useful, but not absolutely necessary.

‘Digistories’ lasts two lessons and is aimed at first year secondary school pupils. A maximum of 40 young people per session.

For 20 years, Luc Rombaut and his team have been giving prevention sessions about addictive substances and behaviour in schools. He informs, makes people think and encourages discussion in a fun and interactive way. He does not point the finger, but searches together with others for ways to deal responsibly with potentially addictive substances.

Drugstoriesalso organises sessions about (il)legal drugs for students, parents and teachers. More information can be found elsewhere on this site. Since the accompanying teachers can also attend the presentations for students, there can be follow-up discussions in class afterwards.
